RNC 2008

There were hundreds of these guys

These guys were just waiting for something to happen.

I’m pretty sure the guy on the right set a record for saying “fuck you” to the most people individually. He went up to every counter-protester to share his wisdom. The guy on the left was actually more interesting, aside from the fact that his gas mask didn’t actually fit him.

One of the many “post mace” shots. The problem with this shot was that I was watching this guy the whole time, and he really didn’t do anything to provoke the officers. Maybe they were going for the guy behind him.

UPDATE: Palin hit a homerun. She was poised, funny and presidential. Ouch Dems, how many people watched this due to the personal attacks? More to come.

Sarah Palin’s speech tonight could decide whether or not John McCain can prevail in this election. Yes, her selection was a gamble. We will see tonight if that gamble pays off. She can either win or lose this election for the Republicans. Let’s hope she does well, not only for the McCain ticket, but to vindicate herself in the face of an unprecedented wave of ugly and vicious attacks against her and her children. Go get ‘em Sarah Barracuda!

Dems: Prepare to reap the whirlwind!

Now that’s power

The two storms influencing the RNC

MSNBC

That’s all for now, I’ve taken over 700 pictures, I’ll get them up eventually.

After a scenic drive through the great state of Wisconsin, I’ve finally made it to the Twin Cities area. I’m cheap, so instead of staying right in the city, I’m just a few minutes outside of St. Paul in lovely Eagan, MN (which also happens to be the home of Governor Tim Pawlenty).

Even though I’ve only been here a few hours, I’ve been quite impressed with everything that I’ve seen so far. From my visit to the Convention Headquarters, to the Minneapolis Convention Center, to the Xcel Energy Arena, everything seems to be working smoothly.

As expected, the protesters are in full force, and I’m hoping to get some great pictures tomorrow from their “March on the RNC.” If I get bitch-slapped by a member of Code Pink, I think this trip will truly be a success.

While I’ve tossed around a few different ideas for how I’m going to cover this convention, at present I think that the best approach is going to be covering what the other bloggers aren’t (while will be tough). While I’ll probably post about some of the speeches that you’ll be able to watch on TV (if they happen), my goal is cover some of the more “behind the scenes” events, or things people might not even consider covering.

So check back often throughout the week, as it’s already looking to be a historic convention, and it hasn’t even started yet.

We’ll see how tomorrow goes.
