Sorry posting has been so light over the last few days. As you can imagine, DC has been even more chaotic than normal. Luckily, the madness is finally starting to subside and the city is slowly returning to normal (by DC standards at least).
While I’m happy to see the tourists leave the city, I do feel sorry for people who are now stuck here, slowly (and anxiously) awaiting their departures.
From an article in today’s Washington Post, Ticket and Travel Troubles Cloud Inauguration Success:
…when they tried to leave town yesterday morning, the lines at Reagan National Airport were so long they missed their flight and ended up departing hours later.
Both coming and going, some out-of-towners discovered that their hopes for smooth and happy participation in the largest inaugural celebration in memory were marred by long lines, missed trains and planes, security breakdowns and chaotic crowds.
From what it looks like, those who missed their flights and trains yesterday should be able to escape the District sometime today.
While it’s unfortunate, I’m acutally quite surprised that things weren’t even worse.
I’m sure the tourists were great for the economies of not only the District of Columbia, but the DC-Metro area as a whole. But to be honest, I’m going to be very happy knowing that I won’t have to push my way through a sea of people who aren’t quite sure how the Metro works.
And of course, a song comes to mind:
…DC sleeps alone tonight… (finally).

postal service… one of my favourites.
thankfully, i actually got to work on time today. yesterday i was caught behind a sea of people who didn’t know where to take the white ticket out of once they put it into that slot thingy. wait! i need that white ticket thingy to get OUT? whaaaat?
Yeah, the Metro thing was probably the most aggravating of all. And of course, the one place they all congregated to sort out their confusion was right in front of the express lanes.
