Senate Votes to Proceed With Yellen Nomination
Just before noon on Friday, the Senate voted to cut off debate and proceed with the nomination of Janet Yellen to Chair the Federal Reserve by a vote of 59-34.
It’s worth noting cloture would not have been invoked if the Senate were operating under existing Senate rules requiring 3/5ths of senators to vote in favor of ending debate on Executive nominations.
Instead, Harry Reid chose to ignore the Senate rules back on November 21, and since then, the Senate has been rubber stamping Executive nominees with a simple majority.
Prior to the vote, Campaign for Liberty informed senators that a vote
for cloture would be seen as a vote against Audit the Fed, if Audit the Fed had not first received a vote.
Since it did not, Campaign for Liberty will be informing our members of who voted against Audit the Fed today by cutting off debate on Yellen’s nomination.
Five Senate Republicans joined their Democrat colleagues in ending debate on Janet Yellen:

Bob Corker (TN)
Orrin Hatch (UT)*
Mark Kirk (IL)
Lisa Murkowski (AK)

Democrat Mark Begich of Alaska, a cosponsor of S. 209,
also voted to proceed with the Yellen nomination.
The Senate will vote on final confirmation of Yellen’s nomination when they return on January 6.
Contact your senators at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote “NO” on Yellen’s confirmation until Audit the Fed receives a roll call vote.
