5 reasons John McCain should pick Mitt Romney for VP
Posted by DC Republican under Campaign '08 , Conservatism , Economy , John McCain , Mitt RomneyThere has been a lot of speculation lately about who John McCain should, or is going to pick to run alongside him in his battle for the White House. CNN’s Political Ticker has also been reporting that it appears that McCain might be heading in the direction of Mitt Romney.
It’s no secret to anyone who has read this blog that long before I was a McCain supporter, my top choice, by far, was Mitt Romney. Naturally, there is some bias with me when it comes to this, however to help paint a better picture, here are 5 reasons that I think would give John McCain incentive to selecting Mitt Romney as his running mate.
- Mitt Romney brings a strong understanding of economics and economic policy to the table. This isn’t something that was picked up in a committee hearing, instead something learned by operating, managing, and consulting some of American’s top companies.
- Mitt Romney will bring some much needed youth to the campaign. Yes, Mitt Romney isn’t the first guy you think of when it comes to being youthful, but at least he has an understanding of technology and new media.
- Mitt Romney understands the importance of having a strong relationship with foreign countries, but beyond that also understands the value in having strong business relationships. Mitt Romney has dealt with foreign economies before and he will have no problem transitioning those skills and observations on a larger level.
- Mitt Romney is an articulate speaker, who can quickly make key points without having to rely on note cards and overused talking points. It’s one of my biggest pet-peeves with McCain, is that most of his speeches seem overly rehearsed, or reliant on note cards and talking points. I know that’s how politics is, but some just pull it off better than others.
- Mitt Romney will be able to bring in a considerable amount of money into the campaign. Even without his personal wealth, Mitt Romney is an extremely well connected guy, both in business and religious circles. These two areas are obviously areas that McCain could be stronger in when it comes to fundraising.
I’m sure others might have their own reasons, or even opposition to this. Regardless of your point of view, I welcome and urge all comments!

I was trying my hardest to hold my nose and vote for McCain, If he picks a Romney for VP, I will definatly be Voting Bob Barr as a Protest Vote. I dont care if Barr can win or not. I think Barr is the most Conservative candidate of all the candidates. Dont take my word for it. Go to one of the Barr sites. He has conservatice credentials. http://www.BarrRoot08.com
What really bothers me is serveral Polls have been done and all of the polling suggests McCain would do better with Huckabee then any other Vp Candidate. Yet it seems hes not even being vetted? Another Black eye for us Conservatives. Huckabee is the only way I and many of the (Conservative) X-Republicans that I know would vote for McCain. We didnt like him when he got the nomination. We dont like him now. The RNC deserves to lose this year. They pushed McCain down our throats and wouldnt let the primary play out. They get what they deserve. Mike Huckabee is the over whelming pick for VP among most Republicans and 89% of conservatives. According to a poll at. http://www.VeepPeek.com
Huckabee actually had a sound energy plan, unlike either of these candidates we have now. Even T. Boon Pickins has a better energy plan then these guys that are running for president. If you havnt seen it you should go check it out. at http://www.Tboonepickans.com
I know I am bitter but I have every right to be. We have alot of people out there who dont have a voice this election year. It seems like instead of trying to give us a voice, they are further distancing themselves from the base of the Republican party. Well I am no longer a republican. Nor is many of the Republicans that I knew.
I would even Rather Have Ron Paul then John McCain. Ron Paul might actually give this country some much needed Medicine. Our country is ill, and no one has answers. The people in leadership are part of the mechinism making our country sick. Wish Ron Paul was running on the LP ticket. He would probably win this thing. http://www.BarrPaul08.com

Mitt Romney would be an awesome choice!!!! I think that he would be a very good compliment to McCain and put the GOP in a good place for 2012 or even 2016. And I would like to note that Romney bowed out gracefully during the primaries, it was a very good move on his part. A lesson learned from the GOP primaries was also that Romney had the money and the organization but McCain had the grassroots and the political gumption. Together the two would be dynamite, especially when you consider the alternatives.

For McCain to tap Romney instead of Sarah Palin as his Veep woud be a gigantic blunder. Unf_ _ king believable!!! Team McCain CAN’T BE THAT STUPID!!!

Everyone knows this is Obama’s race to loose… If only McCain were to snap out of his Alzheimer’s induced haze and select a real patriot, maybe he’d have a chance!

I’m still angry our primary season was cut short, and half the country’s Republicans didn’t have a chance to cast a vote for Mitt. I would welcome the opportunity to do so once again, with him on McCain’s ticket. I believe he would add some of the missiing elements McCain needs to be viable. And….he would no more drag his religion into the public forum than John Kennedy did. Nuff said.

For all you nay sayers out there,go ahead vote for bob carr or ron paul, they don’t have a chance. Why don’t you vote for abama?
Obama doesn’t have the experience to lead this country.Do you like paying $5,6,7,for gasoline?that’s what you will get if the democrat’s get in.We need oil, which is only one of our energy needs. It is not a quick fix but the billions going out of our country to our enemies and opec,so they can buy up our business’s and control our jobs and economy. Why fight us?They can ruin us with economics.
Mitt romney is the best chance for Mccain to win.Mitt is well experienced in business and how to run our economy.
Vote for obama and you will get everything that you deserve!what happened to our pride in our country?Unless you are under 40,which don’t know their history of this great nation,it’s time for the older generation to step up and lead the way.
Vote for JOHN MCCAIN and MITT ROMNEY for the future of this country.Mccain might not be the best, but he is better than the rest.
I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRATE,I AM AN INDEPENDENT. I VOTE FOR THE PERSON AND NOT ANY PARTY.

Mr. Puking (lol), I “feel your pain,” but I don’t know how sensible it is for you to take your marbles and go home, so to speak. No, McCain is not a conservative in the true sense of the word, but then, neither was Bush, and you no doubt voted for him. Hucklebee was a funny man, but not a serious individual or candidate for president. (Did like his fair tax plan.) At least Romney still believes in America and its original ideals/founding principles. Baraka Oh Balma :), that messianic figure, told the Germans that, as commander-in chief, he would look “beyond the narrow strategic interests” of the United States and look to the interests of the entire world. Well that’s globalism on a new scale, for sure (or the same old- fashioned socialism/marxism). Want to pay taxes to the UN? Be ruled by the World Court? Have the Fairness Doctrine law of the land? (Except certain pigs are bound to be more equal than other pigs.) Global EOP. If so, vote for Obama/stay home.

This election is a mess and I think Romney is a great choice with great qualifications. Time to think about our country and what is best for our children. We can’t teach them to steal from those that have worked for what they have and give it to those that are to lazy to work a job instead of the system.

I fully agree….Mitt will bring the best of McCain & the GOP. The left will be intimidated with his presence and surely cannot bring a VP as good as Mitt!

we support rick santorium for vice president; why is there no conversation about him? he would bring experience, pro-family values and youth to the ticket and he is attractive, as well.
August 8th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
we recommend rick satorium as vice president;
why is their no conversation about him.
he would bring experience to the ticket, along with pro-family and conservative values and a moral compass. plus he brings youth and attractiveness.

Mitt Romney was my pick for President. McCain is trying so hard to win the appeal of Liberals that he’s basically thumbed his nose at Conservatives. I hate McCain. If he were to to elected as President then this country is going down the tubes…..just not as fast as if Obama was elected. I’d hate to have McCain ruin any future chances for Mitt Romney as President by dragging him down with a McCain Administration failure …..
Where is our Conservative Candidate…..I’m doing a write in….for Mitt Romney. Screw the Republicans they left the Conservatives let them die.
BTW: Lincoln was a third party candidate. Republicans were such a minor party at the time that Lincoln was the first Republican President and the Party became a major party with his election.
This will be my first write in…..Bushes went liberal on us and McCain is MUCH worse than either Bush.

Romney is a proven LEADER. If the Presidency had to be turned over to Romney, we know that appropriate executive decisions would be made.
August 8th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
McCain has proven not to be a consdervative.
He will prove to be wise if chooses Mitt Romney.
August 8th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Mitt is a gentleman. One has but to see his record on the private and public arenas/ He has proven to be a good, business man, and as such he can bring that experience to this great nation.
If any of you readers under 40 do not get the picture, please go to the Internet and learn about the marvelous job organizations are doing to keep the American people abreat of the abuses of our lawmakers, so please go to:
Grassfire,
American Solutions,
Numbers USA,
With the leadership of these organizations, we have managed to stop TWICE the amnesty Bill, the benefits for the illegal. THere are many other problems, you under 40 may not know about, so learn what the aforementioned organizations are doing on behalf of the American people.
I want to think that you must know history of the world, so keep in mind the fall of the Roman Empire…… and associate the Fall with what is going on in our great nation, we do not even have an official language by choice of many traitors in power in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Our jobs are going overseas, abd Bush plans secretly for his pet project the SPP.
Think our having two INS patrol agents in prison for doing their job—-a mexican enters illegaly carrying 700 Lbs of marihuana goes free with the protection of the USA government—-then the mexican government sues our government, time after this, the same person enters again with drugs stating that he has to feed his family,
just think—do we need NAFTA with free entry to mexican drivers, and what about our own driver?
You get the picture, I said enough.

If McCain wants to win, I think he has to pick Mitt Pomney as his v-p

I think McCain and Romney are made for each other as running mates . A perfect match with McCain on security and Romney on economics. Yes, they are a match made in Political Heaven. Two strong competive men running the country. This team will surround themselves with excellent people and an excellent administration. I bet the stock market will finally take off. Anyway it is the right time and place for these two to lead. I am looking forward to their Leadership

Mitt Romney is the best selection for VP. His strength on economic issues would be a huge asset for the country, and would balance out McCain’s admitted weakness in that area. Romney’s economic prowess and McCain’s experience in foreign affairs will combine to make a well rounded, strong Republican ticket. Romney is well vetted and seems to have a strong marriage and family. Initially, I was a bit uncertain about Romney, but the more I learn about him, the more I am impressed. I am an evangelical voter, and frankly, I am tired of listening to Huckabee’s negativism toward Romney, it smacks of sour grapes. I get the impression he is a bit envious of his former competitor.

McCain is an anti-conservative pro-war Democrat masquerading as a Republican. As an anti-Invasion Indy con, I wouldn’t vote for McCain if my life depended on it. I will either vote for the only true conservative in the race, Chuck Baldwin of The CP, or I’ll stay home. However, I am quietly rooting for Romney because he can save his party. The reason so many (other than Huckabee fans) are turning to Romney is because McCain is 72. Romney (who is more of a conservative than McCain) is 60 and will be there should McCain not finish his term. Another reason Romney’s getting support is, he won 11 states–twice the number Huckabee won and he was second in popular vote. Three or four of the states he won in the primary are crucial to McCain–Minnesota, Michigan, Maine and Colorado. Romney also won Alaska, MT, NV, UT, WY, ND and his own MA, but all of these except MA are definite McCain strongholds. Neither Portman nor Pawlenty can give McCain the following 4 crucial states–Minnesota, Michigan, Maine and Colorado. Only Romney can do that.
Whether Romney can prevent McCain from signing an Amnesty bill that is sure to come up next year is debatable. Call me a single issue voter, but we lose the country if Amnesty is passed. 35-40 million illegals have got to go!
