If they’ve lost MSNBC…

The hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe absolutely shredded Sen. Angus King (I-ME) for his opposition to Gina Haspel’s nomination this morning. Scarborough called out the Democratic opposition for what it really is – “just a sideshow for [their] base.”

JOE SCARBOROUGH: But Senator, Joe Scarborough here, when you were asking her that question, you knew the answer to that question, right?

KING: Well, I thought I did. But I wanted — and I was sort of giving her an opportunity to answer it. And she – as you saw, I had to ask it three times. My impression was that she was making these decisions, but I sort of couldn’t believe it.

SCARBOROUGH: Yeah. But you –

KING: I couldn’t believe it –

SCARBOROUGH: But, you also though – there’s also a lot of information that you could have gotten if the cameras were turned off and people were taken out of the room. I mean, it’s just like Diane Feinstein asked a question that she knew she could not answer in a public committee hearing, and also knew that if the room were cleared and the cameras were turned off, you all could get the information. Was this just a sideshow for your base?

KING: No, no, no.

And with a few simple questions, MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle left King struggling to justify his opposition:

MIKE BARNICLE: So Senator King, Gina Haspel, qualified?

[Long Pause]

KING: I think not qualified because of her bad judgment and participation in the destruction of evidence.

BARNICLE: Competent?

KING: Yes.

BARNICLE: If not her, who?

KING: Well, that’s a good question.

Remember: 50 members of the Democratic Caucus, including Sen. King, voted for Obama’s CIA director, John Brennan. 36 of them are still in the Senate today:

Also worth noting that all 8 Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee voted to approved Brennan, including 5 sitting Democrats: Feinstein (D-CA), Heinrich (D-NM), King (I-ME), Warner (D-VA), and Wyden (D-OR).
