Everyone knew it was coming. It was inevitable. A new Democratic administration always means the slashing of the military budget. It is predictable, like the changing of the seasons or the Cleveland Browns finding new ways to humiliate themselves every fall. It happened in 1977 and in 1992 with the accession of Carter and Clinton. Of course, in both cases the budget was cut in a time of peace, so the logic went. When Jimmy Boy came to the White House it too was a time of economic turmoil. Why let the military have all the fancy toys? After all, those losers couldn’t beat a bunch of Vietnamese wearing pajamas even with an unlimited budget. Screw ‘em, we need the money to beef up the welfare rolls, let the boys in green throw rocks at the Russkies from across the Berlin Wall. What did it matter? The Soviets weren’t going to respond anyway.

Click here to view the embedded video.

These Lay-Abouts Will Get More Funding When They Get To Work!

Flash forward to 1992. There was an even better reason to cut the military budget. The Soviet beast had been felled without firing a shot. Freedom had won, Germans were kissing each other in the Potsdamer Platz and the Russians were drinking themselves to death within their own borders. Why bother maintaining the Cold War military when we had no enemies to fight?

It is now the glorious year 2009 and we have a new Democratic administration. Barack Obama, on cue, has made it clear he wants the military budget slashed by more than 10%. Nothing new to see here considering, hell, Bubba cut the military by a lot more than that. Of course, for those keeping track, there is a minor difference between the here and now and the halcyon days of pre-Lewinski America; it so happens we are in the midst of a two-front war.

It begs the question, how utterly depraved must you be to cut funding to the military during a war? It is almost unthinkable as it is so obviously stupid. What type of jerk-off cretin would undercut his military in the middle of a fight? I had hoped, against all real logic I suppose, that THIS ONE would have some sense and break ranks with his treacherous, duplicitous and seditious cohorts. Imagine if FDR had decided to spend less on the war effort to build new resort proctology clinics. “Sorry Georgie Patton, can you make do with only two armored divisions instead of four? Don’t feel bad chum, the Germans have it worse! They’re using Soviet POW’s to haul around their artillery and are eating horses!” Who needs to win, we have a stimulus package to pass!

But is a new era and Change has arrived. I suppose the military had it coming. After all, those lay-abouts have been cooling their heels on our dime for too long. Would you believe, the last time I was on an Army post those freeloaders were walking around in civilian clothes and NOT working? It gets worse. These jack-asses have so much time on their hands that they have costume parties on a weekly basis. I don’t know why, but Joe has a predilection to wander around something called the WTU dressed as pirates, complete with eye patches and hooks for hands. Don’t they know that there is a recession on? How could they be so blatantly insensitive to the plight of the union auto worker from Detroit, or the crack dealer recently laid-off on the corner of Teutonia and 27th in Milwaukee? How can they ignore the sufferings of those who need renovated abortion clinics and research into bi-sexual midget porn? Like our Dear One said, we must all sacrifice for the benefit of the nation. I say put these bastards to work for less!

For those not in the know, when the military loses funding it does not cut back on weapons or other operational costs. No, for some reason the resident brass brain-trust places the mission first and that means cutting what the fascists like to call “non-essential” spending. The latter generally encompasses everything that doesn’t involve guns, bombs, tanks and replacement weapons. So bye-bye funding for soldier and family oriented programs and anything else that would make those candy-asses and their greedy families comfortable. To hell with them anyways, they have it too good. Like a good friend once said, “why so serious?” I don’t know about you but I think it does a family good to get rid of the father for a year. Its less time spent on NASCAR trips and other stressful family vacations. From the soldier’s point of view it is also a great deal too, after all, kids grow up and out of the house much more quickly if you only see them every other year.

So here we go again. It’s like Groundhog Day around here. Vets grumble about what the similarities with the cuts that Bubba put in place. Older gents, like my Dad did, groused about the return of the Carter years when the military was weak and one spare apart away from disaster. Ha! The joke is on them. Don’t they realize that Change has come? Who needs comfort for military families and wounded soldiers (or victory)when they have Hope and Cookies?

It looks like the executives at NBC have deemed that the Super Bowl ad created by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), titled “Veggie Love,” was just too risque for its viewers.

Here is the video. You be the judge, is it too sexy?:

Click here to view the embedded video.

I’ve had a variety of opinions on this one, but after thinking about it for awhile, I’m set with the opinion that this ad is a bit over the top, even with every Super Bowl advertiser competing for the best ads. With that being said, I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen worse things than this on Saturday Night Live (also on NBC), but that’s amongst an audience that is expecting situations that are crude and/or questionable.

But let’s be realistic, I’m pretty sure that PETA knew this would happen in advance and are just milking (or soying?) the free media. Even though I wouldn’t call myself a PETA supporter, I think it’s a great marketing move.

Besides, if they really wanted to take things over the edge, they could have gotten even more creative with the vegetables.

Oh, ads like these:

It came to me earlier this afternoon while I was soaking in the tub. As is my habit during the winter, I take a hot bath to soothe away my achy legs, feet and back. Though I am not an old man, nor as young as I used to be, Army medicine has left its indelible mark on my once rugged frame. I am not a Philistine, or Caligula for that matter, so I generally try to read while taking in the waters. Of late, I have been studying up on the extinction, and possible resurrection of the Woolly Mammoth. Having become engrossed in the incredibly well preserved specimens collected in Siberia in the last decade, I also began pondering the mass extinction of the late Pleistocene that wiped-out the Mammoths, Saber-Toothed Cats and about 50 other species weighing more than 100 pounds. Mass extinction. What causes it? How does it come to pass that an entire species dies off in such a short time? What was it like for the last Mammoth? Would not death be a better fate than being forced to wander the world in search of others who have long since passed?

One thought quickly led to another. In the other room Fox News was glibly commenting on the latest diatribe by Hillary Clinton. Then it struck me, what will happen when Obama fails to live up to the sky-high expectations of his legions of unbalanced devotees? It is bound to happen. The man is not a god and cannot produce happiness and maple syrup for all. I think it may take a year or two, but the sickening feeling will descend upon the THEY THAT IS CHANGE.

It will start slowly, like some feeling one cannot shake. It won’t even be noticeable at first. They will go on about their business as before with little or no realization. It is only at night, when they are alone in the dark will they begin to notice the stench of fear. Recriminations grow, questions go unanswered. Doubt begins to creep into the mind like a faint odor one is not really sure is there. Panic will grow, little by little, like the slow buzz built by drinking cheap 3.2 (or less) beer found in gas stations everywhere in Utah. By 2011 the feeling of dread will have transformed itself into a full fledged frenzy of utter despair. With the economy still unfixed, and with one or more members of the administration gripped in the greasy depths of scandal, THEY will know the truth that Obama, and his mantra of Change, Hope and Cookies, never really existed.

What happens to a man that has lost all hope? How does one cope with the crushing burden of knowing that their entire being has been savaged by the cold, hard phallus of reality? Does he come to grips with his new situation? HARDLY! If history has taught us one thing it is that those who have lost all hope fall into a spiral of degenerate behavior, indulging every vice and leaving no perversion undone. We have seen it before. In 1945 Berlin, Bucharest in 1989 and in the latest episode of “Battlestar Galactica.” No matter the culture or time period, man behaves the same, seeking comfort in piles of quivering, anonymous flesh, drinking to a stupor and generally making the Visigoths look well behaved in comparison. What follows the orgy of self-pity is usually a terminal bout of mass suicide.

<img title="Minneapolis, early 2011. Studio lofts are abuzz with the crazed girations of orgy bent liberals. The end is near...hope has failed." src="http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2102/191/34/20307095/n20307095_34528446_8755.jpg" alt="Minneapolis, early 2011. Studio lofts are abuzz with the crazed girations of orgy bent liberals. The end is near...hope has failed.

Is such a phenomenon in the offing for our liberal friends? If Obama does not live up to the hype, and is exposed as a normal Illinois politician, will the leftist masses lose faith in any form of hope and begin replicating the behavior of lemmings hell bent on plunging over the cliff? Will everyone be able to get in on the pre-mass suicide orgy action? Is life worth living without Change?

America. 2011. The night is still. Places like SoHo, Greenwich Village, Boulder and Madison are deserted. Coffee shops are empty and independent bookstores are dormant. The windows of studio lofts are dark. A man walks down the street, the last of his kind. He voted for Obama in 2008 but somehow survived the mass-suicide earlier in the year. He has looked for others of his kind everywhere from San Francisco to St. Paul to the halls of Harvard and Vassar. His is a futile quest, and he begins to understand that in the end he is utterly, and horrifically alone. Like the last Mammoth, wandering the wintry wastes of Wrangel Island 3500 years ago, vainly searching for a mate or even a friend, he too will fade into the mists of history a relic of a time long gone.

Part I: A Fetid Corpse

A German general in World War One once lamented that the alliance with the moribund Austrian-Hungarian Empire, an alliance that was daily diminishing Imperial Germany’s chances at victory, was akin to being chained to a corpse. Of course, since that term was coined, it has been used to describe many situations. At present, it was also fitting description for John McCain’s run for the White House in 2008. Despite the lunacy that Barack Obama represents, and his barely concealed socialistic intentions, as well as his alliances with radicals, John McCain lost the election simply because no matter what he did (or for that matter, what Obama did) the electorate was unwilling to vote for a Republican. Indeed, once the economic crisis struck McCain was doomed because the voters trusted the Democrats more than the Republicans to fix the economy. One wonders how it could have come to this considering that only a few short years ago the GOP was the party of fiscal responsibility, enlarging its majority in the Congress and re-electing President Bush. Of course, the answer to this somewhat ironic turn of events is simple insofar as the Republican Party has become a walking corpse and a victim of its own greed, decadence and hubris.

If the corpse was to have a name it would most certainly be Senator Ted Stevens. Though most would, at first blush, automatically go to George W. Bush, I think that Stevens is a far more apt symbol of the transformation from the party of Reagan to the big-government, big-spending and ethically challenged leviathan that suffered a staggering defeat on November 4th.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Uncle Ted reacts badly to his future in prison.

Stevens, as you may know, has served a staggering 39 years in the Senate and has recently been convicted on seven counts of corruption. Stevens is known for his affinity for pork, including the infamous bridges to nowhere, as well as his total misunderstanding of modern concepts like the internet (which he thought was made up of a series of tubes).

It is men like Ted Stevens that is at the root of the public’s negative perception of the Republican Party. Stevens is a perfect example of the Republican incumbent that has served so long as to be corrupted by the process. He is out of touch, is a fiscal hypocrite (though he has a point about wealth distribution vis-à-vis Alaska and the rest of the Union) and his refusal to resign is indicative of a gross sense of entitlement and terminal hubris. He has betrayed the public’s trust and used and abused his august position making his constituents look like utter fools.

Click here to view the embedded video.

      Uncle Ted the REMIX!

Of course, as noted, Stevens is not the sole offender as one could name any number of so-called Republicans who have compromised themselves and the people they were elected to represent. Names like DeLay, Cunningham, as well as everyone involved with the wretched Jim Abramhoff, have sullied the reputation of the GOP to the point that one can argue that the current incarnation of the Party is nothing like the one led by Ronald Reagan or even George H.W. Bush.

Arthur Harris, the commanding officer of Britain’s Bomber Command during World War Two once warned his German adversaries that they would “reap the whirlwind” for their habit of bombing civilian targets. The same could be said for this election year and it remains to be seen if they can dig themselves out of the rubble.

To be continued with Part II: How the GOP can turn defeat into victory in 2010 and 2012.

Today is Veterans Day. What does that mean? Is it just another day off? No. It is a day of remembrance. It is also a day of hope. In remembrance of those who gave everything to a dream, and hope for the gift they bought with their lives. Yes it is Veterans Day, but ask any veteran and he or she will tell you that this day is really for those who never came home…

Click here to view the embedded video.

Veterans saved this Republic in its most desperate moments. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and his men made an Obama victory possible.

Let us consider the last week. We have just elected a new President. Moreover, he will be our first African-American President and a testament to our nation’s greatness in its ability to overcome past wrongs. We will have a peaceful transition of power in a world filled with coups, strongmen and barely veiled dictatorships. We take this for granted these days but we must never forget what it took to reach this period in our history where we have such peace and prosperity. Our nation was underwritten by the blood of our fighting men and its future is guaranteed by the same.

Consider the victory of Barack Obama last week. We have a black President, something that was unthinkable within living memory. Who made this possible? It was the blood of Union soldiers that made the hopes and dreams of an entire race reality. It was the solider fighting a desperate battle in a desperate war on Little Round Top withstanding the invincible tide of Robert E. Lee’s gray legions. It was Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain fighting to the last that saved the Army of the Potomac, and the United States from utter and total defeat.

What about the freedom we enjoy? Would we be able to engage in a bloodless election if it were not for the heroics of the American fighting man in the face of Hitler’s Wehrmacht and Tojo’s fanatics? Or perhaps we should dwell on how this nation was founded in the first place. It was not rational discourse nor petitions to King George III that allowed our Republic to gasp its first breath, no, it was the blood of the first patriots, split at Lexington, Concorde, Bunker Hill and finally Yorktown, that gave birth to the dream that has become the United States.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Thank a veteran, they built this nation, especially those you never came home…

So on this day remember how it was we have become the greatest nation on the planet. For all those political types out there, forget about the perception of your contribution to the United States in electing Obama or fighting the good fight for McCain and take the time out of your day to thank the real heroes of the Republic; those who gave up everything they ever were, and all their hopes and dreams, so that the dream that is liberty could come to full fruition.
